Durriken looked around quickly, at the buzzing cards, Yuki, most likely over powered by their thoughts, no matter how primitive, and the distress it was causing everyone else. He glared at the cards.
“Get Down!” he said firmly. The cards ignored him and he could still feel their excited thoughts.
“I said...GET DOWN!” he yelled at them, his eyes flashing with the famous Gypsy fire.
As suddenly as they flew from his deck and began swarming, the stopped, dropping to the floor with a louder clatter as they struck the wood. Sighing, he couldn’t feel their thoughts anymore, he looked over at Yuki and hoped she was okay.
“Sorry about that.” he said sighing first then glaring at the unmoving cards. “I think this book set them off, I can tell by the way it is bound that it is Gypsy made, and, these symbols mean that it is about Tarot.” he said as he ran his fingers over the indented symbols. “And I guess the basic intelligence my father gave the cards kinda got carried away.” he said, embarrassed.

Yuki stood up while he was looking at his cards and giggled a little. Sure, she hurt, but she could bounce back from such things with ease. She contined to giggle, and smiled a little, "You know, you're not their mother! Hee hee!!
"Yuki! You're okay!" Ajax said, filled with relieve. He looked down at the girl and smiled at her, a smile of a feeling he didn't understand. He realized that she was smiling back at him, her hair glowing with the light from the sun that was captured with an ingenious structural plan by the shape shifters, and Ajax's face grew red. He bit his lip and looked away, a little embarrassed.
"Of course I am, Master!" Yuki said in a cheerful voice, seeing Ajax blush. That was also interesting... Could it be that he still 'liked' her, like she 'liked' him? She pondered this as she retrieved her orange from Muto carefully. Not a drop of it's delicious syrup had been dropped. She smiled gratefully at Muto before looking at the cards.

Durriken sighed and blushed like a mother who’s child is misbehaving. He held out his hand and the cards slowly rose, staying close to the floor and went back into a deck in his hand. The girl giggling didn’t help much either.
“I would say, for your own safety to be nice to my cards,” he said, standing up with the book and shifting his cards back into their box. “I might not be their mother, but they are still children, who go off without thinking.” he said, giving the deck a mental glare, meaning now and the Ajax incident.

"Like three year olds, huh? That's so cute!" Yuki said, giggling some more as she bit into the orange with a smile. She looked up at Ajax, her eyes sparkling mysteriously. She tilted her head a little and grinned, "Don't you think so, Master?"
Ajax rubbed the back of his head a little nervously before answering. He looked away, blushing a little more, "Yeah... I guess..."
Then Ajax walked over to Durriken slowly, "Durr... Just try and make sure she doesn't get hurt, okay? I mean... I don't want anything to happen to you if she did... That could be... well... disasterous... Anyways, to get off the subject... What's in that book anyways?"
Yuki walked up to him after a second, munching on the orange. She looked between them, a confused look crossing her face... Why... Was this Durriken a -dare she say it- a friend of Ajax... At first, she had thought he was perhaps an acquaintance of Ajax... But no, this was more... Ajax seemed to trust this human. It was odd, as Ajax had left the manor thinking that every human was bad.
That thought drew tears to Yuki's eyes as she bit her lip, swallowing her last bit of orange. He was letting go of hate. He was recovering. He was... healing. Yuki closed her eyes, and let the peace of the library flow through her. Everything was at peace here. Everything. She stepped closer to Ajax slowly.
Muto smiled at them from the door, especially Yuki and Ajax. They looked good together. When those two started to blush at each other, Muto had a strong feeling of togetherness pass through him. Shape shifters were very sensitive to feelings, as they always consentrated on the energy currents around them. He smiled slightly, remembering the first time he had met his mate. That was so long ago, but it had the same feeling attached to it. This was a good pairing. Muto was proud of his son. He chose a Goddess, and Ajax knew well, so it was even better for him. Muto left the room quietly, not wanting to interrupt. He could see that he wasn't needed there. Ajax was right, he would try to take the book from Durriken, so everything was in order.

“I don’t know yet, the book is clearly Gypsy in origin. You can tell by the binding. Only Gypsy use this special kind of leather. It is treaty so it won’t warp and shrink if it gets wet or in changing climate since we move around so often. These symbols on the cover also show tarot themes, which are heavy in Gypsy culture.” he said as he ran his hands over the leather cover, feeling under the leather for any indication for a surprise.
As he felt the cover of the book he felt a small metal bar going under the leather to the spin. ‘There is was’ he though to himself. Most Gypsy books, the few they had, were normally booby trapped, so that others who were not part of the family could not read them. Some threw out a blinding powder, others set the book a flame before it could be read. Turning the book so it stood on its cover, he reached into a small opening within where the pages were bound, feeling around. With his finger he pulled out a small loop of string. Giving it a pull, a small metal click could be heard from within, the trap was undone so the book was now safe to open.
“Lets see what’s in the baby” he said as he slowly opened the dusty old book.

Ajax waited, nervous about the book... It had a feeling of power to it. The energy currents had shifted to meet it. How had something like it survived in this library? Without realizing it, he clutched Yuki's hand slightly, watching intently.
"Ehhh?!" Yuki's eyes grew wide and she felt the energies pull. She looked down to see Ajax's hand around hers. It was so much. She blushed fiercely, but tightened her grip on Ajax's hands. Some energy shot up her arm, and she gasped a little. There was something odd about this book. Still, there was something odd about this place.

Durriken felt the energies as well, all converging as he opened the book. When he turned to cover and revealed the first page, his cards began to rustle within the box and he quickly clamped a hand over the cover, to keep them within. The paper of the book was yellow with age, but the blank ink was as clear as if it was written yesterday. The text themed to glow with energy, just begging to be read. Stooping his head over he began to read it aloud.
~~~Page 1~~~ Long ago, since the beginning of time, there have been twenty entities, immortals, who kept this world in balance. These people have always been in the world, and always will be. They represent key points of discovering and learning in life, and with their help, the world runs smoothly.
When all is well, these people are invisible, each playing his or her role, then passing on the role to the next person down the line, like a set of waves breaking on the coast, one after another. The Gypsies were the first to notice these people and sought them out.
When discovered, these people did not punish the Gypsies, and instead, passed on their information, and gave them the power to see into the future. These powers were given, but only in one condition, they Gypsies had to find a object to contain the power. The Gypsies picked a most fitting entity to place the power. They chose a simple deck of Tarot Cards, seventy-eight in all, based off the people themselves.
The beings took this deck and blessed it, giving it a small bit of their own power. Each card having a power of its own, while as a whole the deck had intelligence, and, when used as one, told the future without lie, though it was removed from the stone of time and place.
This deck was passed on from Mother to Daughter, from Mother to Son. Wars were fought over this deck between families, and blood feuds were started. Soon after the wars, the deck disappeared, believed to be taken away be the Beings themselves, not seeing the Gypsies fit to hold them anymore. That is why this book was made, to inform future generations of this loss, and to teach them, and maybe, someday, the deck will return. And the current holder can seek out the Beings, and reinstate the powers placed into the cards.
After finishing reading, he stopped. Glancing down at the cards everything clicked into place. That is why the cards wanted him to befriend Ajax, to take him here, and to this book. That is why the flipped out when he entered the library. But...if the cards were taken away by the Beings...how did his father get them to give to his mother....there were many questions that needed to be answered.
Durriken sat there, book open, limp in his hands, his eyes glazed over in a daze and he tried to absorb all the information.
Ajax listened, looking at the deck as he was reading. So, this was the fabled deck then? When Durriken glanced down at them, that sealed what Ajax had already guessed. He sighed and sat on a nearby chair, thinking about what the book said.
"So," Ajax started, drawing out the word, "We have to go find these 'Beings' and ask them to give power back to your cards? Sounds like a quest made up by some fifteen and sixteen year olds. Still, who am I to question fate?"
Ajax sighed and looked up, "I suppose we should get this done with. The sooner we're done, the sooner we can do something else. Still, I bet this isn't gonna be all fun and good and what-not... So it is..."
"Oh, don't say that Master! This sounds like fun! Can I go with you this time? Please?! You never know, you might need me," Yuki said, giggling a little. She looked down at Ajax, "By the way, it does NOT seem like it was written by fifteen and sixteen year olds! That's rude. I think that this is going to prove to be interesting."
Yuki moved to sit beside him, on another chair. She looked up at Durriken, "Still, Master Ajax is right. We should start as soon as we can. He likes to get things out of his way. So, when do you think the best time is?
Durriken blinked rapidly a few times, removing the glaze from his eyes. He glanced over at Ajax and sighed mentally. They guy could really change personalities in a heartbeat. “If you guys want to come, I guess you can, though I am not sure how this will work, I don’t even know how to get to the first person, or who it even is. Though my best bet would have to be The Fool, that is where the deck starts, and The Fool represents a new journey.” As he spoke the cards name, the book began to glow, and it automatically flipped to the second page. As he looked at the blank page, words and a picture began to appear. ~~~Page 2~~~ The Fool
I reside in an area, of games and fun, Though hidden within is deceit and con. Gaze at the games, peak at the prizes Protect your pockets, guard your gold
As the starter of new futures, The Fool is the first person on your path to energize the cards once more. He begins all journeys, good or bad, so he will start yours as well. To find him, follow the riddle to the place he calls home. There you will be tested on the meaning he holds. Pass this test and he will grant you his powers, fail and he will turn you away.
The Fool’s power is unique. As the starter or new journeys, he can see the path of every person but his own. With the gift of The Fool, you will be able to see the lines that cross people between each others. You will be able to see the lines of fate for every person except you own, yet, you will not be able to see far down the line of fate.
Though be warned, the power is uncontrollable in the hands of a person not trained in it. It will send any person not able to handle it into a rage, attacking anyone or anything around. Also, to take on this power you must give up a part as well. For the ability to see the future of others, you will lose the ability to remember the past of yourself.
"I reside in an area, of games and fun. Though hidden within is deceit and con. Gaze at the games, peak at the prizes, protect your pockets, guard your gold..." Ajax read. He had moved quickly, up from the chair when the book had started to glow. He read it slowly, over Durriken's shoulder.
"That sounds like... Well, it's a little far from here, but perhaps it's... Well... I doubt that even the Fool would be there, from his description... but perhaps..." Ajax focused on this thoughts, trying to figure out any other place that would fit the description... There were none. Then he looked over to Yuki, and she finished for him.
"The Carnival!" Yuki said, with a slight giggle from where she was seated. Her body showed excitement as she continued, "It's logical, Master! They have a lot of games there, and a lot of fun! And remember that one time when Master Muto took us there? That was Gypsy lady almost conned us out of our money! She was going after Master Muto's gold! And there are so many prizes there! It HAS to be the carnival!"
Ajax sighed, "I wished it wasn't that... I don't particularly like the carnival... Oh well... She's right, the Carnival Grounds are the only place I could even think of to have that stuff... Well, what are we waiting for?"
Durriken looked at him a little strange. This Ajax was really different from the one he knew from the Inn. He hoped he changed back by the time they go to the Carnival grounds since this version was not that fun to be around. At least the fun hyperness of Yuki counteracted this.
“Well, I guess there would be no better time then now. I know the gypsy carnival grounds are pretty close to here. It should be pretty safe since it is the off season. If we are lucky we will have the whole thing to ourselves.”
"Good." Ajax said, his voice slightly tight. He turned his back to Durriken and paced the massive library. Then he looked at Durriken, "I'm going to take a little walk around the house alone. I need to think. I'll be back."
Without waiting for a responce, Ajax stalked out of the library. He didn't look where he was going, but paced up to his room none-the-less. He knew his way around this house like no one else, except his father, of course. With a sigh, he sat on the bed, noticing that the covers were fresh and clean, as if his father had been expecting him... That was odd.
Ajax sat back, and looked at the ceiling, with beautiful cats playing with pieces of ribbons. Still, they were more than just cats, though Ajax couldn't explain it. The mural seemed to capture the magic of cats as well.
He sighed, thinking as his eyes moved along the different assortment of cats, and he thought about what had happened. Why was he back in his father's house? It was the one place he swore that he would never, ever go back to, and yet, here he was.
His father... he still had bad feelings towards his father, and his father knew that. In fact, Ajax still resented his father greatly. In fact, though Durri tried to get rid of this anger, it still festered in Ajax. And, though he did NOT show it to Durriken, he was starting to harbor resent towards the gypsy. For goodness sakes, how DARE that man try to change him into something without hate. Most shape shifters were born with hate. It's just not something that you could take away from them!
Ajax turned on his side and stared at the end board of his bed. He was lonely, really. Yuki, she was distant from him, and she always would be. He sighed and shook his head. He really hated this world.
Back in the library, Yuki watched Ajax go out with sad eyes. She stood up, ready to follow him, but realized that he probably wanted to be alone... Something was different about him, much different. She turned to Durriken, with gentleness and tears in her eyes, "Master Durriken... would you care to fill me in about what you did to him? He seems more full of hate than he was before... Why is that? What did you do to him?"
“That is hard to explain. It was kind of a chance encounter, but it was also fate. When I first meet people, I normally just get a single card for that person, it describes them or something about them, normally it is pretty broad, depending on how close I will need to know the person. For Ajax I got three cards, then four more when I talked to them. The card started to get a mind of their own and started to buzz around Ajax.”
“Well, then, we started to get into an argument and I could sense his inner anger. Thinking I would help him a bit, don’t know why, I cast a spell on him that the cards put on me when I first got them. The spell makes you relive the source of your anger and hatred. When I got hit with that it wasn’t that bad, well, it was, but it wasn’t as bad as Ajax’s. I couldn't even start to see some of the stuff in his past. I guess he still resents me for that.”
“Well, he passed out after that and I took him to the Inn I was staying at. There I let him rest and as a way to say sorry, I let him see his sister again. Unluckily though this attracted the attention of some of the shape shifters down stair and they came up...when I was totally drained of energy. Well, after that Ajax got them to leave with some shape changing contest thing and last he took us here.” he said fairly quickly, giving her the quick version of the story.
"Uhhhhhhh-huuuhhhhh..." Yuki said slowly, looking at the door where Ajax had left. Then she looked back at Durriken with a flash of anger in her eyes that quickly subsided. She was calm now... For a moment, she was silent. Then, in a whisper that barely stirred the air, she said quietly, "Do not take this the wrong way, but that was foolish of you... I realize, even if Ajax doesn't, that it was the cards fault..."
There was an erie sort of power behind her words, though she realized it not. She looked up at him, and there was determination in her eyes, and she shook her head slowly.
"Poor Ajax... So alone in the world... And he must hate you for that, knowing that you know his past, for I am sure that you wanted an explaination of why he passed out afterwards. 'Tis a sad thing," her voice was back to normal, and her eyes were welling with tears.
“Yea...” he said looking down, “the stuff in his past should remain buried until he is willing to dig it up. If I would have known it was that bad I would have never dug it up. And it is partly the cards fault, but it is also mine, I am the one that told them to cast the spell, I am the greater mind in the pair, and I should have had discretion. But, sadly, what is done, is done, that chance in a life time meeting has set the wheels of fate a moving, though the future even I can’t see.” he said, his voice deep and mystical at the end as he flipped over the top card of his deck and revealed ‘The Wheel of Fortune’
