A heartwrenching sobbing sound came from deep within the cemetary, the pitiful sound belonging to a strangely beautiful woman, bowed low to the ground.
"I searched...for so long." Amara sobbed, tears falling from her delicate eyes and splashing on the ground. "And you were right here...right in front of me." She raised her pale face to the moonlight, her visage one of ultimate sorrow. "Why couldn't you still be here?" She breathed.
The grave she was mourning over was one of her dearest friends that had been killed by a vampire. This friend had been Amara's love, and so close to her that he had been like a sibling.
Amara's eyes drifted to the stone at the front of the grave. "I feel nothing, dear one. No love...not like I used to." She whispered. "You never loved me...and I understand now. You didn't have to love me...to be my everything. I need you."

Ryder watched the scene before him from a distance. he was not part of Amaras weeping, he merely watched over her for sake of her hunger. so he turned away from the sight, his eyes glinting up toward the moon. The cloudless sky, it was beautiful, and to be filled with the cries of the vampiress was wrenching. Now and then Ryder would happen a glance over his shoulder toward Amara to ensure she was safe, he knew she could handle her own, but with nothing to consume his time, being her hybrid body guard fullfilled something deep in him that had long been hollow.
Now he strained his best will not to be at her side. But this was not a time for him, this was Amaras time alone, so he kept his distance, the cries of the beautiful vampire playing with the strange echoes of the cemetary. Ryder leaned against a tall tombstone with a angelic figure cemented atop it, the whole thing standing taller than he. The angels arms were crossed over a spear and its wings were wide open. Ryder shook his head and sighed.
"If only your kind were real...."

Amara caressed the stone with a slender hand, not reading the inscription. She didn't care what it said...only that the person that it guarded had passed away forever. "You once said vampires were fallen angels...because they are the most beautiful, yet the most deadly." She wiped her eyes dry. "And the very ones you spoke of ended your life. And now...look what I've become, dear one."
Amara averted her eyes and pulled herself to her feet. She stepped away from the grave, drifting among the other stones, her grief effectively hidden. "And to think...I have caused others as much pain." She muttered. She glanced back at Ryder, who insisted on staying by her side now. She hadn't noticed that he had followed her this time...and perhaps he didn't want her to know he was there.
What I really want is you to hold me in your arms. Was what her soul screamed...but she pushed it away. "I can never be loved." She whispered, turning back to the leaf-strewn ground.

Ryder could feel Amaras eyes on him even though his back was turned. It was strange, when ever she would look at him, his muscles would tense and his skin would feel as though it were iced over, yet it barely bothered him at all. He knew she would eventually notice him. and as usual she would pretend she had not, but he knew better. he could smell the different chemical reactions happening.
He heard her whisper, but he knew not what, and once she seemed to be finished he decided to approach her. He thought of removing the long, light brown coat he wore for her to put on, but then his mind reminded him, shes a vampire, she doesnt get cold. So he refrained from making any notion towards the idea. He simply strode beside her silently for a while before speaking.
"You carry much pain...and sorrow....And i know better than to ask questions of it...but I know pain, and i know loss...Amara...do not let such things consume you...you'll end up like me..."

Amara felt a comfort when Ryder approached her, a warmth that came from the soul...not from touch. It was a reassuring prescense that she had so longed for. She did not answer him for a few moments, thinking about what his warm voice had spoken, mulling over the words, dissecting it, examining it.
"You can question anything, Ryder. We share a bond...the bond of a vampiress and her vassle is often considered as that of lovers...if one dies, the other is sometimes broken beyond the will to live." She looked up at him...he was a bit taller than her. "And the sorrow is all I have left...nothing else." A tear slid down her cheek...she pretended not to notice. "The body of my dearest and truest friend lies cold beneath my feet...killed by one of my own kind." She whispered, stopping to turn and face him. "And you are a wonderful person, Ryder. I would not mind being like you...full of kindness and concern for others. I feel nothing of the sort...humans are my source of survival. And the only one that understands me is the one that I hurt...the one who lets me hurt him, so that I won't hurt others. And sometimes I wonder if even he truly understands."
Amara averted her gaze, stepping away from him. "You are right...I should forget my sorrow...forget the past. It is nothing to me now."

Ryder looked down at Amara, then as she turned away he grabbed her as gently as he could manage by the shoulder. he turned her to face him again, wiping away the tear that clung to her pallid cheek. Ryder smiled and set his other hand on her free shoulder.
"Amara...I know all too well what I do...I know how it feels to hurt those closest to you...all too well...."
Ryders eyes gazed off into his memories for a moment, his mother and father being torn to shreds by his own hands. But he shook the images away. he turned his orange hued eyes back to meet Amaras, he smiled and turned his head to one side. he then glanced at the moon and turned back to her once more.
"You know...sometimes I wonder whos helping who..."

Amara dropped her gaze to the ground after meeting his eyes. She lifted her hands to rest on his. His hands were slightly larger than hers. She raised her eyes once again. "Without what you give me...which is more than I deserve...I would cause more people to be in pain. I give you nothing in return. I...want to repay you...please...tell me how, Ryder."
Amara was looking into his eyes, though her eyes were darting slightly over his face, taking him in. She felt safe around him. She was a well-seasoned fighter...but she felt safer around him than she thought she would. She once again dropped her eyes to the ground. I don't deserve to live...

Ryder shook his head with a grin. He allowed some of his weight onto the slender shoulders of Amara. He turned her away from him and rested his chin on her shoulder, he let one arm stretch out to the moon.
"You see....the moon is given light from the sun, though the sun gets nothing in return, and yet...every morning the sun returns, to shine once more. I need nothing you could offer me Amara...you give me purpose...that is far more than i could ever ask for."
Ryder smiled over her shoulder, peeking his orange eyes over to hers as they stared at the moon as he had pointed out.

Amara sighed, leaning back into Ryder. "You explain things so beautifully." She whispered, eyes dancing across the surface of the moon. She looked into his eyes, fully aware of how close he was to her. She could feel his warm breath on her face...and every detail of his strange eyes was bared before her.
She smiled. "How do I give you purpose?" She asked quietly.

Ryder stepped back and placed his hands at his sides, bending his elbows. He laughed happily at Amaras question. He leaned against the nearest tombstone, letting the cool cement seep in with its petrifying chill. He smiled as he put all his weight on one arm and sighed. He looked from the bright stars to Amaras eyes. they shone nearly the same now.
"You see Amara...I am a monster...no purpose of my own...no good to do in this lifetime...that was until you...I found my calling, found a purpose for the powers I have..."
Ryder held his hand out to Amara with a grin and a slight bow.

Amara turned to look at him, smiling a half-smile, hiding her fangs. The moonlight showered her with a silver light that seemed surreal.
Amara took his hand, bringing it to her lips and kissing it softly. She released his hand and turned back to face the moon. "You have a purpose in this life...but what is mine?" She said, still smiling. "I have no purpose...unless my purpose is to help you fulfill your purpose?"
Amara inhaled deeply, taking a step forward. Her hair cascaded across her shoulders gracefully, but then again, every part of her was graceful.

Ryder smiled and shook his head. He smiled gently as ne bent and took Amaras hand in his. Ryder lifted her hand in the air and then used it to spin Amara into his arms. He laughed quietly and then dipped her low, nearly to the ground before swinging her back to her feet, spinning her back out, but not releasing her hand.
"I can not answer that...only you can do that...but i know this, not all vampires can withstand drinking the blood of a lycan or a demon, let alone both, you have a purpose Amara...and you will find it one day.."
Ryder smiled and bowed , letting his eyes lock to Amaras. His lips pulled pack in a wild grin, showing the gruff dimples in the calloused skin of his face. He stood once more and then spun Amara into him once more, facing her the way she had been before, toward the moon.
"You see..though the moon merely sits in the sky it has a purpose, as does the black sky it sits upon....as do we all..."

Amara moved with Ryder, following his motions, gripping his hand tightly in her own. She smiled back at him, a full smile, that even in it's grimness was still beautiful. "Your words make me feel needed." She said.
Amara closed her eyes, the vision of the moon still imprinted on her eyelids. "Your words are true...everyone must have a purpose, or they wouldn't be alive." She laughed softly. "I haven't felt so...happy in a long time, Ryder. Thank you." She said, twisting her body to look up at him.

Ryder smiled back at Amara. He was filled with the warmth of happiness that he had not felt in years. he had not felt that kind of warmth since the night where his entire life had been changed, though he expected Amara felt the same. And at some level he thought about her, why was it that he had been compelled to be her vessle? was it simply for purpose, or mercy? or was there more to it than that. Not even Ryder fully knew why he had chosent o become such. But he held no regret about it, and if he were to be put in the situation again, he would surely make the same choice again. He lifted hie eyes to the moon, the symbol for all he was...the lycan in him wanted to change and run free into the wilderness. but he was not like the rest of them, he was more. it had taken so much to see that, but now that he did, he was not letting go of it.
Absent mindedly Ryder allowed his arms to slip around Amara, he had not even realized it himself. And now here they stood, the vampiress and the half-breed, in a strange symbiotic embrace in the yard of the dead. in his mind it almost seemed poetic. but it did make him smile.
"the moon...its purpose, to force many to change, to drive lycans mad...and to light our sky with its beauty...so much it does, with such little effort..."

Amara settled into his embrace, enjoying the warmth of another body close to her. She had never tried to get close to anyone before...the blood frenzy always forced it away. But now...here she was, a young vampiress with her head against the strong chest of a demon-lycan hybrid. She could feel his heart beating inside his chest, the sign of life...the very muscle that forced blood through veins...veins that she severed in order to live. She lived such a strange, grim life.
"It is the only light I have seen for two years." Her voice was breathy, louder than a whisper, but quiet. "I have come to love the moon...when before I hated it. It mocked me...now...I realize it's beauty."
