A smile came to Amara's lips as she slept, but in a moment, her eyes flashing open and she grabbed Ryder's arm, pulling the bleeding wrist to her lips. She felt the thick, warm blood running down her throat, and her body trembled for more.
Amara looked up at Ryder, no recognition in her eyes at first. Abruptly, she loosened her iron-like grip on his wrist and turned away. "Dear Ryder...it is dangerous to let a vampire feed on your blood...I can't control it sometimes." Her eyes met his, and her hand touched his still-bleeding wrist. She touched her hands to it, licking the blood off the tips of her small fingers. "Thank you, Ryder." She whispered.

Ryder nodded, bearing a soft return smile to Amara. He knew the dangers that came with letting any animal too close to you, let alone one that thinks of your blood as lunch. He turned his eyes to the wound and smiled as he saw the flesh stitch back together. It was small, taking very little effort if any to close back up, and soon, was just a smere of red from the left over blood on his wrist.
"Amara..I knew the risk I placed upon myself...but better to have me as a vassal than harming an innocent. At least I can heal what you take..they...they could die from it"
As Ryder spoke he motioned his hand to the people in the streets below them. He turned his eyes to the mortals that walked by in their blissful ignorance, completely oblivious to what two immortal beings watched them from above.

Amara's face looked pained. "Ryder...this is what I am." She whispered, gazing into his eyes. "I have no other way to live...you have to understand."
Amara looked away, afraid that she would start to cry. Knowing that she caused family's to suffer...as she had suffered before...it was heart-breaking, but it was what she was. It was her life.
"I'm...sorry I am what I am."

Ryder knelt beside Amara, his head hung low, he had not wanted to sound as if he were chstising her. He merely wanted her to see that there could be a way to change the way things were, she did not have feed from mortals..she could use him as a vassal, a bloodbag. but to get that through to her seemed harder than he had originally anticipated. He sighed heavily and laid a hand on Amaras shoulder, lifting his eyes to meet hers.
"I did not mean to sound condensending...I merely meant, I can help...you can use me...you dont have to harm anyone else...i regenerate faster than any human can....it would be easier for them and you..."
He hoped that this time he had gotten his opinion across in a more clear manner. not as he had moments ago. He let his hand fall from her shoulder to rest at his side. His weight sat back upon his feet as his knees dug into the rooftop gravel.

Amara smiled slightly, touching the skin of his face with her palm. "You suggest a great thing, Ryder. You would be in constant danger...every time." She explained softly, gently caressing his face. "You are right...it would save many people's lives. I have heard such things as this being done before. If you are one hundred percent certain this is what you want...I will accept this grim offer." She smiled sadly at him, dropping her hand.

Ryder pondered for a moment. He almost let a doubt slip into his mind, but that quickly rolled away, and with it he found that this would not only help Amara and many others, it would give Ryder a purpose in life. Even if that purpose was to be a vassal for a vampiress. He looked to the stars once before he made his choice, they shined brightly, there was no over casting clouds, no city smog. Just a pure black sky, with its bright crescent moon and twinkling stars. It made him smile whole heartedly. Ryder then turned his gleaming eyes back on Amara, and with a nod he answered.
"That is my decision...I will feed you..."

Amara smiled sadly at him. "You are brave, Ryder. More brave than ever I suspected. You do a great thing...even though it causes you pain." She pushed herself to her feet, smoothing her clothing. Her eyes darted to the sky, always aware of the time slipping past her. "I...thank you. For...everything, Ryder." She smiled genuinely. "You have a beautiful soul."

Ryder turned away at the mention of his soul, for he did not belief that any form of demon had a soul. But he turned back to amara with an obviously fake smile, his eyes darting the the specks on the horizon. They were purples and oranges.
"Lady Amara...We should see you to saftey before Raphaels rays come to feast on you.."

Amara pretended not to notice that she knew Ryder's smile was a forced one. She met his gaze on the horizon. "Yes...I should find...somewhere." She said, sighing. "Finding another haven every night, merely hoping that no one stumbles across my hiding place. Never a home...never anything permanant." She shook her head. "I'm sorry...I have a tendency to ramble. You wouldn't happen to know of a place I can stay, dear Ryder, would you?" She asked quietly.

Ryder could not help but allow a grin to cross his face. He stood to his full height and scooped Amara up in his arms, it would be easier for him to take her there then to explain how to get there. this only because there was only one available entrance of which he ahd created himself. And only he knew where it was.
So he leaped from where they stood and sprinted from alley way to alley way. he took so many twists and turns that it seemed to even amaze him that he knew where he was going. After a quick moment of streets and lights flashing by his vision, he came to one last alley. He stopped and went over next to a large green dumpster. He set Amara down on her feet once more and bent over to grab the bottom of the dumpster.
With one movement, the side of the dumpster slid up, revealing that on the inside it had been welded to the building itself and the side had been torn off and drilled back on sliders. Revealing an eight foot high by four foot wide doorway into the first level of the abandoned building. he motioned her inside with his hand and a smile.
"My abode...its not much, but there are no windows....so you will be safe..."

Amara wrapped her arms around Ryder's neck to keep herself steady, everything rushing by in a blur. She had no idea where they were going, and even when they got there, she was still lost.
Amara stepped inside the building, the darkness enveloping her.
"Its nice. I thank you from the bottom of my heart." Amara spoke softly. "I'm sorry there is nothing I can do in return for all of your kindness."

Ryder held up his hand as he dropped his eyes to the floor for a moment. he closed the sliding door behind them and then looked back to Amara with a soft smile.
"I deserve no payment, nor would I take any, having a purpose and a friend is more than enough for me.."
He strode over to a couch and lifted the front of it, pulling it out into a sort of bed. He then walked back to Amara and motioned to it.
"Im not sure on vampire sleeping arrangements...but this is the best i have for now...I only sleep two hours a day...so maybe during the day I will go and fetch some more comfortable furniture...that is, if you intend to use this place often..."

Amara bowed respectfully. "You deserve more than you take credit for." She whispered. "I will find a way to repay you eventually."
Amara stood, watching him fix the bed. "Vampire's sleep like any other creature...we don't sleep in coffins or crypts anymore...or, rather, we aren't required to." She bore an amused look on her face. "This is perfect for me." She yawned and sat down on the bed. "Thank you." She lay down, closing her eyes. Her breathing slowly became even and calm, a slight smile on her face.

Ryder nodded and turned to a closet, which he opened to reveal a pile of blankets on the floor and one folded on the inner shelf. He handed the folded one to Amara, taking and spreading out the piled ones in a corner, then curling up in them, amazingly comfortable. He returned Amaras smile as he lay down on his matted blankets. And he slowly drifted off into the sleep of his, to wake hours later.
"Sweet dreams lady Amara..."
